President Volodymyr Zelensky has dismissed Ukrainian Ambassador to the UK Vadym Prystaiko. The decree was published on the website of the head of state.
The document says that Prystaiko was also deprived of the post of Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the International Maritime Organization, which he held concurrently.
Prystaiko’s resignation came after a diplomatic skirmish that took place in early July at a NATO summit. Then the British Minister of Defense Ben Wallace urged Ukraine “to express more gratitude” to partners, and in particular to Great Britain, for the military support provided with money and weapons. He also noted that Ukraine has a habit of treating allies, including the UK, “like an Amazon warehouse”, providing lists of weapons Kyiv needs. As a result, Wallace said, these allies sometimes have to persuade countries to give up their own [ammunition] stockpiles.
“Whether we like it or not, people want to see a little gratitude,” said the British minister. And he added that this was not the first time he spoke with Kiev on this topic. “You know, we’re not Amazon – I told them this last year after driving 11 hours to get the list,” he said.
Zelensky remarked to this remark by Wallace: “We have always been grateful and always thank. I just don’t know how else we should thank? We can wake up in the morning and thank the minister [Ben Wallace] personally. Let him write me how to thank, and I will thank you,” Zelensky said during a press conference in Vilnius.
