Brazil GP Will Be Investigated Over ‘unacceptable’ Track Invasion

Storms, first-lap chaos, and a formal investigation against the Brazil GP itself. The drama just keeps on coming! After the race, the FIA summoned the Sao Paulo organisers to the stewards after reports of fans invading the circuit whilst cars were still on track. A big no-no.

It has been determined that “a large group of spectators” managed to break the security lines and access the run-off area at turn 1 while the race was still in progress and cars were still on track.

The stewards determined that the security measures expected to be in place for the event were not enforced and were insufficient, resulting in an “unsafe environment for the spectators and drivers.”

The Sao Paulo F1 Organisation (the organisers) admitted failures in terms of security protocols and safety measures and agreed that “comparable circumstances already occurred in Brazil” and that this was an “unacceptable situation which could have had disastrous consequences.”

They also stated that they would conduct a thorough investigation and take steps to fix these issues before the next event in Brazil and, as asked for by the FIA, present a plan addressing the abovementioned concerns.

This is the second event this year that has been referred for formal investigation. After the Australian GP, fans were seen climbing fences onto the circuit before the race was over.

Spectators actually reached Nico Hulkenberg’s parked-up car at the exit of turn 2, which still had its light flashing red – meaning the car was in an unsafe condition and electric discharge was still possible.
