Russia shoots down 60-70% of Ukrainian naval drones, but even this is enough to consider them an effective weapon.
This was stated by the head of the GUR, Kirill Budanov, in an interview with Radio Liberty.
“For obvious reasons, it is impossible to say how many of these drones are. Let’s put it this way: it’s a lot. How effective is it? Since there are real losses incurred, and the price of such a drone and the price of a warship are incomparable, we can say that it is quite effective way. But, of course, they destroy 60%, maybe even 70%. However, for them, the problem is in those 30%,” Budanov said.
According to him, sometimes the drone is destroyed already next to the Russian ship, and then the ship goes “for a long repair.”
“For example, the story when sea scooters entered the waters of the Sevastopol Bay. There was a well-known case. The scooter was destroyed. When approaching the Admiral Essen frigate, right on approach. If you look at this situation first, it would seem unsuccessful. But from the blast wave (since it was destroyed about 100 meters from the ship, and the charge is powerful enough) and the ship’s electronic equipment, certain electronics, antennas, certain systems and sonar system were completely damaged from the wreckage. And the ship went for 3.5 months for repairs. Three s I stood in the dock for half a month,” Budanov said.
He calls such drones an effective deterrent weapon, but not an offensive one.
“But to paralyze the activity of the fleet, which, in the end, in principle, happened – this has already been achieved. Ships do not go further than the raid of Sevastopol in a northern direction,” Budanov added.
