Tajikistan, UK Hold Political Dialogue

AKIPRESS.COM – The Political Dialogue between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan and the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office was held in London.

The delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Mr Sharaf Sheralizoda, and the delegation of the United Kingdom was headed by Under Secretary of State for European and North American Affairs Mr Leo Docherty, the Foreign Ministry of Tajikistan said.

During the dialogue, the parties discussed a wide range of bilateral cooperation issues in politics and economics, investment and business, education and culture, water and climate, combating security challenges and threats such as terrorism and extremism, as well as drug trafficking.

Inter-parliamentary relations, cooperation within the framework of international and regional organizations, the situation in Afghanistan, the need to strengthen the borders and technical support for Tajikistan’s “green” energy projects and programs, and the importance of organizing visits of high-ranking officials from the two countries were among other issues that were discussed during this Political Dialogue.

At the end of the Political Dialogue, the heads of delegations signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, and agreed to continue a constructive dialogue in order to strengthen ties in areas of mutual interest.
